Direct Student Loans (Government) SUCKS!!

I graduated back in April of 2007 with my bachelors degree in Marketing or what Chris Hooley refers to as “Mah-keting” (don’t punch my face for that…I gave you a link). Unfortunately, I had to take out student loans and when the rates increased in 20006 I had to consolidate my student loans with Direct Loans since I didn’t have enough in student loan debt to qualify for a consolidation through NextStudent.

Problems I’ve had with Direct Loans (Government):

1.) When I first consolidated they put my loans into immediate repayment while I was still in school full time. They knew I was in school full time but still put me into repayment?!? To resolve the issue I had to fill out a in-school deferment letter and send it in.

2.) After being placed into in-school deferment, Direct Loans for no apparent reason started charging me interested on my subsidized loan…WTF?!?!? Yet another call explaining I was in school and after an hour phone call got the issue resolved.

3.) Graduated in April 15th, 2007 and received a statement with a due date of July?!?!? I have a six month grace period on my student loans yet Direct Loans seems from April to July is six months, WTF! Another call to Direct Loans and this time I received a rude lady who told me I graduated in Feb?!?!? After arguing with her for over an hour I decided to say FU to Direct Loans and just start paying off my student loans now rather then filling out another form and making more calls to them.

This is a prime example of why the Federal Government should not be in complete charge of the financial aid industry. They suck, they hire worthless employees who don’t give a sh** and they only work M-F 8am – 5PM EST!

Thanks but don’t have more than 10K in loans, fortunately. No I was not paid to blog about it. I know what’s going down behind the scenes with the student loan industry and think its BS since the Government thinks they can handle it all. “They are shit, no they are worse than shit. They don’t even compliment shit!”

Well i work for direct loans, when u consolidated they shouldve told you you forfit your 6months grace period and plus they fixed the issue as well, when u consol u shouldve made sure direct loans is who u want because once u consol u cant consol again unless you have other student loans not consolidated yet. Some student loans services are good for some people are bad for others….

So what about the rudness. Direct Loans has totally lied to me and screwed me over. They sent a letter saying if any information we have is wrong please call. I call and I get shuffled from person to person, lied to about being a supervisor then told later that they are not. Get assigned a “case manager” who is rude, and hangs up on me after stating she has no reason to try and help me. What kind of customer service is that? Anyone know someone who works for Direct Loans that can help someone out and not lie or be rude?
