Well I can tell you this…The Great Stache Off is NOT a Joke!

The Great Mustache off of 2007 is a contest and fund raising event for testicular cancer awareness and research. The organization aims to raise thousands of dollars through a world-wide mustache contest and was founded by Jeff Dempsey, Dana Witt, and Myself.

The Great Stache Off contest/charity event is open to anyone, I mean anyone, willing to grow a mustache, starting September 1 and ending on October 31, 2007. To enter the Great Stache Off, ALL contestants/fund raisers must donate $20 to the fund, and shave ALL facial hair on September 1. Contests are to remain clean-shaven (except for their upper lip/mustache area) until October 31, 2007, the contest end date.

The Great Stache Off also accepts donations from stache-less non-contestants/fund raisers. Contestants are urged to find sponsors for the event; sponsors can donate to the fund on the contestant’s behalf.

Why Mustaches?It’s quite simple, actually: because it takes balls to grow a mustache! That’s the philosophy behind growing mustaches for testicular cancer awareness and research.

In 2007, there has been an estimated 7,920 new cases of testicular cancer in the United Sates alone, with 380 cases resulting in death. Furthermore, testicular cancer is the number one ranked cancer in men ages 15-35 years old (cancer.gov).

Unfortunately, the threat of testicular cancer has garnered little research and fewer awareness programs. With this contest, we aim to help raise further awareness and interest in research for a cure.

What’s in it for the Contestants/Fund Raisers?

A trophy will be awarded to the winner of the contest. When making donations, sponsors must select a contestant to donate on behalf of. A list of constants can be found here. The Contestant with most funds raised will win the trophy and the self-satisfaction that he helped raise the most money for testicular cancer awareness.
